Why Do I Need a Domain Name

First let me start out by saying you don't need a domain name to use our hosting services; we can set you up with a directory from our site.

Here is a comparison between a directory and a real domain name.

Let's say your company name is Empire, Inc. If you would want to be known as empireincorporated.com you would need to register that name with a domain name registrar (assuming someone else is not already using it). Your web address would then be www.empireincorporated.com. This would also give you the unlimited use of email addresses from this domain. For example anyone@empireincorporated.com could be one of your email addresses.

There are many companies that now sell domain names and the prices vary greatly- anywhere from $6.95 per year to $35 per year.  The company that I prefer is www.godaddy.com.

Now let's say you don't want to pay for the real domain right now. We would then add you on as a directory in our domain. So using the same name as above your web site would be accessed by
www.striblingconsulting.com/empireincorporated OR www.empireincorporated.striblingconsulting.com

But let's discuss why you should get a domain name. First of all, if you are serious about doing business on the Net you need to build a home, stake a claim to something you can call your own, something that you have almost total control over.

Let me give you an example of a reason why you need a real domain.

You could go right now and sign up for a free web site at any of 100 different places on the net. Let's say you go to www.abcfreesites.com and you sign up for a free site. You then pick your user name, and you might be able to chose empire. More likely than not your actual url will end up looking something like this:

www.abcfreesites.com/members/business/empire/index.html

Now do you really want your customers to have to try to remember that? Most people will not be able to remember that, and therefore will not be able to find your site again. Another thing to consider -- Would you really want to invest money into a company that can't even spend the $7 - $35 to get their own domain name? Just think of it as advertising!
